Publikationen zur Mineralien-Geologie

Das Internet ist sehr dynamisch. Seiten mit mehr oder weniger interessanten Info's kommen und gehen. Kein Webmaster kann garantieren, dass seine Seiten auch in 5, 10 oder gar 100 Jahren noch zugänglich sind. Deswegen wird die Veröffentlichung in Papierform auch langfristig Bedeutung und Bestand haben. Weiterhin sind Publikationen im Internet bezüglich ihrer Qualität schwer einzuschätzen. Jedermann kann schreiben was er will, egal ob es fachlich richtig, wahr, halbwahr, unwahr oder kompletter Schwachsinn ist. Anders ist es bei anerkannten Fachzeitschriften die auf die Qualität großen Wert legen und über "previewer" (in der Regel hochkarätige Wissenschaftler) eingereichte Beiträge fachkundig prüfen. Dennoch hat das www  auch Vorteile, etwa die schnelle Verfügbarkeit oder genial gute Durchsuchbarkeit.

Im Zeitalter des Internets sind viele Fachzeitschriften deswegen AUCH online zu lesen. Gegen nicht wenig Geld natürlich. Die verlagsübergreifend neu eingeführte DOI-Nummer erlaubt es, online-Publikationen zu lesen und zu zitieren, selbst wenn die Arbeiten noch nicht gedruckt vorliegen. Zum Auffinden eines Fachartikel genügt die DOI-Nummer des Artikels (ähnlich wie die ISBN-Nummer für ein Buch). In einem Link wird dieser Nummer lediglich "http://dx.doi.org/" vorangestellt. Der DOI-Server leitet die Anfrage an den Verlags-Server weiter und in der Regel wird eine Zusammenfassung angezeigt (diese i.d.R. kostenlos). Ändert sich z.B. die Ververzeichnis-Struktur im Verlags-Server wird nur (vom Verlag) die Weiterleitung im doi-Server einmal berichtigt,  alle Links im www laufen unverändert korrekt weiter. Mit Hilfe der DOI-Nummer kann also eine elektronische Publikation dauerhaft und unabhängig von der URL im Internet identifiziert und referenziert (gelinkt) werden.
